In conclusion,
our study demonstrates for the first time that a therapeutic treatment with NCX 1000 is effective in reducing steatosis, inflammation, oxidative stress, and insulin resistance in an in vivo rat model of diet-induced NASH. In this model, NCX 1000 does not appear to offer any advantage over equimolar amounts of the parent compound UDCA. However, the results of our study also support the use of combinations of lower doses of NCX 1000 with natural lipophilic antioxidants, such as vitamin E, as a valid option for the treatment of NASH.
